Why Isn't Cabarrus Recruiting Private Schools?
In recent months, the county and some municipalities have given corporations huge tax incentive rebates. I have been a vocal critic of this practice of extending "privileges" to certain companies, at the expense of others. I would not have a problem with tax rebates if every company in the county were eligible for them. Having said that, I now ask; Why not extend tax rebates to private and home schools?
The Economic Development Corp. (EDC) should be rolling out the red carpet for potential private education providers. Placing children in private and home schools frees up much needed classroom space. By increasing the market's role in education, the burden of new school construction debt would be less. Millions of taxpayer's dollars would be saved. Extending tax rebates or credits may help some families afford private or home schooling.
Reducing the tax burden and increasing the variety of educational options is within our grasp. Will Cabarrus have the political courage to make it happen?
I hope so.....
